YOM TIKKUN OLAM

Join us on Sunday, May 19 for a day of volunteering in the Greensboro community.

At Yom Tikkun Olam, volunteers of all ages will work together to perform acts of social responsibility and kindness – fulfilling our shared obligation for tikkun olam, repairing the world. Gather at 9 a.m. on Sunday, May 19 at Beth David Synagogue for a delicious breakfast, kick-off rally, and group photo before heading out to volunteer at one of several project sites. 

On Yom Tikkun Olam, we give our time to make a difference in the community.

WHICH PROJECT WILL YOU CHOOSE?

Here are just a few of the projects that will be available on Sunday, May 19 at YOM TIKKUN OLAM:

SANCTUARY HOUSE

Volunteering at Sanctuary House will help adults who experience symptoms of mental illness gain a greater sense of independence and pride, for a purposeful and rewarding life.

 

A SIMPLE GESTURE

A Simple Gesture depends on volunteers for nearly everything they do. Thier generous donations help fill the shelves at the David D. Food Pantry at JFS.

 

BEYOND PLASTICS GREENSBORO

Save our planet, and ourselves, from the negative health and environmental impacts of plastics. Join Beyond Plastics to help reduce plastic pollution in Greensboro. 

 

BACKPACK BEGINNINGS

By ensuring food and basic necessities are given directly to children in need, BackPack Beginnings makes a positive and lasting impact on their health and well-being.

 

PEACEHAVEN COMMUNITY FARM

Peacehaven Community Farm is a sustainable farm on 89 acres of organic gardens, rolling pastures, and woodlands that connects people with special needs to their community.

 

AUTHORACARE COLLECTIVE

Volunteers at AuthoraCare Collective truly make a difference. Use your unique skills and personality to be a part of a wonderful team of local people who serve others.

YOM TIKKUN OLAM kicks off on Sunday, May 19 as a Jewish-led day of social action.

Guided by these Jewish values:

  • Tikkun Olam repairing the world
  • Gemilut Chasadim acts of loving kindness 
  • Tzedek justice 

Hundreds of people of all faiths, and all ages, will gather together to make a difference in our community.

Take on the true spirit of repairing the world by volunteering throughout the year!

If you’d like to continue the mission of Tikkun Olam beyond Sunday, May 19, then you can be a Torchbearer – and carry the Jewish values of repairing the world into the greater Greensboro community all year long.

A financial donation helps support the costs associated with the Yom Tikkun Olam projects, and enables families, neighbors and friends to work together to help those in need in our community. Click here to donate to our YTO tzedekah box!

 

Food Pantry Collection:

Help Fill the David D. Frazier Food Pantry at JFS. Please donate canned and non-perishable food, diapers, formula, toothbrushes, toothpaste, combs, hairbrushes, soap, shampoo, deodorant, chapstick, tissue packs, fruit cups, juice boxes, granola bars, small snacks, etc. Donations can be dropped off at Beth David, Temple Emanuel or Jewish Family Services before Friday, May 17, or brought to Beth David on the morning of Sunday, May 19.
